As you might guess, we here at Only Percale Sheets think percale sheets are pretty fantastic things to sleep on. Why else would we have an entire website dedicated to them? And even though our dedication to percale does not lean towards obsession or fanaticism (honest) we do think they are great to sleep on year round. Even in the dead of winter? Yes, especially then.

Not Just For Summer
For many people, the classic image of crisp percale sheets includes sheets being dried on a clothesline in the backyard under the summer sun. Try doing that in winter and you’ll end up with a giant frozen sheet. While being crisp is one of the more important qualities of percale sheets, crispness does not come from being dried on a clothesline. This is due to the nature of percale itself. Percale’s crispness is a function of the weave that was used to make the percale sheets, not how they are dried. While drying in a clothes dryer will soften them somewhat, the natural crispness of percale is maintained no matter how you dry them. This lets one enjoy crisp sheets at any time of the year, including the dead of winter.
3 Things
Percale sheets are great because of the crispness, their coolness and their durability. Not everyone likes these properties, but few can admit to disliking durability when it comes to something they have purchased. Crispness and coolness can be up in the air for some people. Crisp sheets are far from uncomfortable. Many people prefer sleeping on crisp sheets year round. In fact, if one sleeps with varying levels of bedclothes, crisp sheets can be far more desirable than soft flannel sheets. Not only do flannel sheets pill and look and feel terrible far sooner than one wishes, they can grab and pull at bedclothes resulting in them being twisted and pulled around your body during the night. If you don’t move during sleep, then you’ve got no problem. But if, like most people, you toss and turn during the night, the crispness of cotton percale sheets can have unexpected benefits.
Cool is Cool
Now, when it comes to coolness, that doesn’t seem like the much of a benefit during the winter. It may or may not. But perhaps potential buyers should consider looking past this point. Percale sheets are not refrigerated sheets that stay cool all night long despite your best attempts to warm up. They are sheets that are cool initially but then soon warm up from your body heat. Considering how quickly flannel sheets turn bad, perhaps potential buyers of percale sheets should invest in a nice down comforter for use during the winter instead of flannel sheets. It will last longer.
Easy and Durable
Which brings us to the final two points – continuity and durability. By using percale sheets in the winter as well as the warmer months you save time and money. You don’t have sheets that sit in the closet for most of the year waiting for the temperature to drop. You simply use the same kinds of sheets all year round. By buying two sets of percale sheets and cycling them all year long, they will last longer than by buying just one set and washing them every week.
Percale sheets are awesome sheets to sleep on. It doesn’t matter if it’s warm and balmy or windy and cold. Their crispness, coolness and durability are admired qualities any time of the year. So go out and buy yourself a percale sheet set or two. You’ll be glad you did.
