Well, in following with our two previous articles (here and here), we’ve got three more myths about percale sheets that we feel should be corrected. Honestly, if they’re not, the world won’t stop turning, the sky won’t fall – nothing like that. However, these myths might possibly keep some people from fully looking into buying percale sheets and that is something we would like to avoid. Why? Because they really are just that awesome.

Myth #1 – Air drying is a must
This myth is often predicated on a mother or grandmother who practiced the fine art of drying clothes outside on a clothesline. While air-drying does have a classic feel to it, it is not always practical every place in the country. Rest assured you are unlikely to damage your percale sheets or reduce how amazing they feel by drying them in a dryer. Just be sure to check the manufacturer’s recommendations and follow them.
Myth #2 – Ironing required
As a result of being 100% cotton (and if they aren’t, you should just keep looking), combined with the very nature of percale weaving, percale bed sheets often look rather wrinkled once they are dry. Air-drying or in the dryer, it doesn’t matter – they often look wrinkled. Now, many people, the fine folks behind this site included, will argue that since you’re going to be sleeping on them anyway there’s little point in wasting the time or the energy on ironing your percale bed sheets. Because the truth is, ironing is entirely unnecessary. However if that’s what makes you happiest and helps you enjoy your sleepy time even more, then by all means go for it. But if you’re looking for your first set and have heard this myth – it’s not true. Unless the manufacturer’s requirements say it is necessary. In that case, keep looking.
Myth #3 – They will last forever.
Wouldn’t it be great if they did? Just keep on going and going, never wearing out and staying as good as new. Unfortunately it’s not true. While percale sheets have a longer perceived life than many other kinds of bedding because they are highly resistant to pilling, they do wear out over time. This sad day can be extended by purchasing two sets and alternating them. Although it’s just a trick, it can extend the time between needing to buy new sheet sets, which is nice in and of itself.
So there you have it, 3 more myths (and 8 myths in total) about percale bed sheets that can confuse many first time buyers or even repeat buyers. So go enjoy spring, have fun shopping, and if you do decide to buy them, let us offer you your first congratulations at choosing the most awesome sheets on the market.
